TRAVELLER'S
GUIDE TO TRIESTE DUINO SISTIANA MIRAMARE
The
Triestine Riviera is a magical place nestled at the
foothills of the Julian Alps and cradled by the azure
waters of the Adriatic Sea.
MIRAMARE

Located across the bay from Venice, its rocky coast and
placid hills have embraced nature’s forces to create
unspoiled pine forests, clear waters, sparkling beaches
and an abundance of wildlife.
It
is a unique place that has welcomed visitors and
settlers from other parts of the world for as long as
there has been recorded history.
This
is a place where influences blend, making each day a
unique experience.

TRIESTE,
DUINO SISTIANA Traveller's Guide
The
imperial Castle of Miramar is attainable with the car or
with the bus (line 51) in only 10 minutes ( ticket €
1.60 ).
The
bus stops nearby our B&B.
Who
drives on the panorama route Sistiana- Miramare-
Trieste between the Adriatic and the hinterland,
will fast understand why the Italians use to call its
country “Il bel paese” - the beautiful country.
Into
countless curves and turns it goes over the sea
through green Macchia.
A
set of lookout points makes it possible to enjoy in
peace the panoramas: small bays, which are only
from the sea side accessible, and often only the envious
view of the owners of the numerously crossing yachts and
motorboats remains.
The
coastal road from Sistiana to Triest ranks reliably
among the most beautiful routes of the entire
Mediterranean coast.
The
WTO (World Tourism organization) confirms the Triestine
Coastal road as one of the 20 most beautiful coastal
roads of the world.

Sistiana
Bay
|
|
The coast of Trieste is well known for the sandy beaches
of the Island Grado and the indentedness and
variety of the Sistiana's Coast, characterized
through stones and rocks. Very soon You will become
aware of the beauty and the charm of the coast which has
a lush submarine life and where every beach is different
and certainly represents something worth exploring.

| Beach
Dama Bianca between Duino & Sistiana |
|
Sistiana Bay developed during Trieste's great days at
the end of the nineteenth century, comes to life in
summer, when all Trieste seems to come here to chat,
play cards, sunbath and swim. The water is very clean.
Just short of the resort, is the Rilke's
Promenade.Leading magazines inserted the
coast near Sistiana among the most clean and wonderful
beaches of the year.
There
are two beautiful pebbly beaches in the bay, Caravella
beach, backed by a steep mountain, and Castelreggio. The
beaches of this area are very frequented. You'll find it
hard to tear yourself away.Right on the beach there is a
diving center, fruit and ice-cream stands, coffee bar
and a beach restaurant.
If you are not a fan of crowds, hustle and bustle, the
area south of Sistiana have many other spots &
secluded areas for a swim.
To
find more privacy and less people you can also walk
south or rent a kayak for a perfect romantic day
exploring little coves and surely you will discover the
perfect place
for you. Extraordinary scenery, Mediterranean
scents and surreal beauty of water and sky color, will
soon make you forget about the time. In the
well-indented coastal area with a number of small bays,
hidden within dense vegetation, you will often come
across naturists. Although the beaches are not specified
as naturist, many people choose to enjoy the sea and the
sun in this way.
|
| The
sea water of the triestine Riviera was declared two
years in a row (2005 and 2006) from the Healt's
Ministry among the 10 cleanest waters of Italy.

|
|
Some
people are a bit disappointed with the fact that the
eastern part of the Gulf of Trieste doesn't
abounds in sandy beaches,
but you will often hear same people later saying that
this is maybe even better because this is the reason sea
water is so clean and crystal clear. And when we
say crystal clear, we really mean it.Some of these
beaches can be reached by walking on the age-old
pathways that lead you past the "macchia", the
green spruces and olive tree trunks, while being
accompanied by the scents of rosemary, thyme and mint. |
|
|
Between
Sistiana and Duino you can see the highest Cliffs in the
whole of Italy.

The
cliffs afford an amazing sense of space and exposure to
the sky. And below, verdant plant life, vines and
cypresses cascade down the ribbed rock that emerges, in
porous spikes, from the cliff-face. The cliff is made of
limestone and the erosion of rainwater accounts for the
textured quality of the rock. |
|
Climate
for the triestine Coast:
The
warmest months are July and August when the air
temperature is between 25°C and 35°C (77°F - 95°F)
and the sea temperature reaches up to 28° C (83°F).
The rain is rare. This is the time when most of
the tourists come. If you're for a quieter time at the
beach and not so many tourists, maybe May, June and
September are months for you. They are also very warm
months with average temperatures around 25°C (77°F)
and the sea surface temps between 19° C and 23° C (68°F
- 77°F).
Sunbathing
and swimming is also possible in April and October, but
it really depends on the weather .

Grado
and Aquileia
UNESCO
WORLD'S HERITAGE
And
just a few kilometres away there is Aquileia: one of the
most important towns of the Roman Empire.

After
the fall of the Roman Empire, Aquileia became an
important Patriarchy for more than a thousand years:
from 699 to 1751. The patriarchal basilica houses one of
the biggest and most antique western mosaics decorated
with scenes of the sea, while the Museo Paleocristiano
(Early Christian Museum) conserves a heritage of
frescoes, mosaics and reliefs of enormous interest.
Aquileia is still an important place for religion
besides being a centre for conventions and historical,
artistic and cultural events.
Aquileia
was founded in the first century BC. It occupies a
strategic defence location. It became a Patriarchs's
seat and many beautiful churches were built. The
Basilica is considered to be one of the most important
monuments of early Christianity. There are two museums
to visit there. -Unesco's World Heritage-
Grado
was the extreme southern part of the port of Aquileia.
Now it a beautiful island city joined to the mainland by
a causeway. It boasts 20 kms of fine sandy beaches.
Grado was very popular as a spa during the days of the
Austrian Hungarian Empire with its healing sands. Grado
can be reached by the no. 21 bus from the B&B. There
is also a boat service during the Summer.Through the
Venetian style narrow paths and small squares, each walk
in the historical centre of Grado is a plunge into a
truly unique
atmosphere. In fact, time seems to stand still and each
corner has its own special story to tell. But the whole
town of Grado has a special style, made of tranquillity
and wellbeing. You can, in fact, say that the Isola del
Sole is a huge pedestrian island, far away from the
traffic and daily chaos. And even in the more modern
areas, greenery is an integral part of the scenery.
